Charles Sturt University student Megan Coleman is the Alphapharm 2012 NSW Pharmacy Student of the Year (PSOTY).
The NSW final of the Pharmacy Student of the Year counselling competition was held at the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia’s (PSA) Clinical and Practice Expo (CPExpo) at the weekend.
The winner was announced at the PSOTY Cocktail Party at PJ Gallaghers@ the Fox and Lion in the Entertainment Quarter on Saturday evening.
The three state finalists were: Kate Blanch (University of Newcastle), Megan Coleman (Charles Sturt University) and Rebecca Mackay (University of Sydney).
The winner was announced by PSA President Grant Kardachi and Alphapharm’s Krish Peruvemba.
Mr Kardachi said the standard displayed by the finalists had been exceptional.
“The judging panel was very impressed by the skills and abilities of these students and their passion for their profession,” Mr Kardachi said.
Mr Peruvemba said “Alphapharm are happy to support the PSOTY initiative and would like to congratulate all participants, the finalists and Megan Coleman on their individual achievements. I would also like to thank the profession for their ongoing support to Alphapharm and its parent Mylan”.
He added: “It’s with the support of the healthcare profession that we work towards our goal to provide 7 billion people around the world access to high-quality medicine.”
The PSOTY judges, Grant Kardachi, Catherine Bronger, Dimitra Tsucalas and Krish Peruvemba, said that the standard of competition made it hard to decide on a winner and complimented all three finalists on their skills and knowledge.
Megan Coleman will now compete in the PSOTY national final to be held at the Pharmacy Australia Congress 2012 in Melbourne from 18-21 October. PSOTY is sponsored by Alphapharm.
