Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
The Certificate IV in Training and Assessment helps pharmacists and staff supervisors to:
- better train staff and improve their productivity
- understand how staff can make more effective use of training
- provide effective training sessions to a variety of groups including the community
- better assist an intern through his or her year of workplace training
- discover a new career path in teaching and assessing in adult education.
This qualification is particularly suited to those who oversee, mentor and/or train in their pharmacy or workplace. Participants may include supervisors, trainers/mentors and pharmacists who will specialise in developing training and assessment skills in community pharmacies to enable them to train, mentor and coach their staff.
Delivery includes face-to-face workshops, self-paced learner guides, workplace projects and ongoing mentoring and support via email, telephone and one-on-one sessions.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available to all participants and will involve recognition of learning that has occurred through other training, informally in the workplace, at home or in other settings.

The delivery of this course was great, easy to access workshops and time to complete assignments that enables the busiest pharmacist to participate. I learnt that not everyone learns the same way, how to adapt my teaching style to cater for different needs, how to adequately plan and set up sessions in a realistic framework and how to use interactive techniques to maintain interest. The major benefit for me is being able to make sure that learners and employers get the most out of the time committed to training. For me this has been working with intern programs, conducting sessions at the Maternal Health Centre and day to day training of Dispensary Technicians and Pharmacy Assistants. I would highly recommend this course to all pharmacists.
– Chris Ilievski, Pharmacist As I was starting to undertake tutorial work I thought that I needed a good base on understanding adult learning. The TAA unit (Facilitate group based learning) has helped me to understand different learning styles and how to facilitate adult learning rather than traditional class room based learning.
