Provisional Registration with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA)

Pharmacy interns in Qld, ACT and Tas will not have held provisional registration prior to 1 July and will need to make immediate application for provisional registration under the National Law in order to continue practising as intern pharmacists under supervision. This will also be a new requirement for WA interns when WA joins the scheme. NSW and Victorian interns already intern registered under the previous state pharmacy boards have automatically be transitioned across to the Pharmacy Board of Australia.

At its June meeting, the Pharmacy Board of Australia decided that no action will be taken in relation to any unregistered intern within 30 days of the application form being provided by AHPRA and so interns not yet registered (including those in NSW) have until the end of July to become provisionally registered.

Interns are encouraged to visit www.ahpra.gov.au for more information and the associated requirements related to Provisional Registration.

N.B. A requirement of Provisional Registration (and registration in general) is to hold Professional Indemnity Insurance (PII) for more information please visit http://www.pharmacyboard.gov.au/News/New-national-Professional-Indemnity-Insurance-PII-registration-standard.aspx If you would like to sign up for PII please contact PDL www.pdl.org.au
