Dose Administration Aids Service
A dose administration aids service assists in the safe and effective administration of a consumer’s medication and improves adherence.
It is a holistic service that covers the packing of dose administration aids (DAAs) and the professional support services provided to ensure the optimal use of DAAs.
The DAA service guidelines provide a framework linked to processes and practical advice to enable pharmacists to implement a DAA service for suitable consumers using systems that uphold the principles of quality use of medicines.
Appendices 2-5 of the guidelines are provided below in Word format to enable pharmacists to download and use as tools:
PSA has developed four checklists to assist pharmacists with: planning implementing and maintaining a DAA service; formalising a DAA service with the consumer; packing the consumer’s DAA; and confirming and meeting the consumer’s DAA service needs.
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs provides funding for veterans, war widows and other eligible DVA clients to access dose administration aids services.
