What are Practice Support Tools?
The Practice Support Tools are a wide range of helpful guides and forms designed to assist pharmacists in their transition to general practice and establish themselves as a GP Pharmacist, as well as supporting them on an ongoing basis.

Practice Support Tools to establish the role of the GP Pharmacist
The Funding opportunities document may be used by pharmacists who approach a practice to discuss the potential of having a pharmacist at the practice.
The Generic position description may be used by employers advertising a position for a general practice pharmacist.
The Preparing for a successful interview can be used by pharmacists to reflect on their skills and attributes before applying for a role as a General Practice Pharmacist.
The Sample scope of practice can be used by pharmacists to reflect on their current skills and knowledge, and identify competencies relevant to the General Practice Pharmacist role where they may require further professional development.
The Role statement may be used by both the pharmacist and practice to identify activities a General Practice Pharmacist could be involved in.
The Needs assessment is designed to be used in conjunction with the Role statement tool. The General Practice Pharmacist and lead GP, practice manager or other relevant staff member can use this tool to identify activities the General Practice Pharmacist should undertake that will benefit the practice and its patients.
The General Practice Pharmacist can also use this tool to self-assess their competency to perform different activities and identify potential areas for further professional development.
The Role description guide is to be used by the General Practice Pharmacist and relevant staff member in the practice after the Needs assessment has been completed. Contains a template that can be filled in to outline the activities the General Practice Pharmacist will be involved in in the practice, as agreed to by the pharmacist and the practice.
Information sheets can be used by the General Practice Pharmacist when meeting with other members of the general practice team and local community pharmacists to discuss their role and potential ways the General Practice Pharmacist can collaborate with others.

The Waiting room poster may be displayed in the waiting room of the general practice to indicate that a General Practice Pharmacist works there and how they can help patients.
Information sheets can be placed in the waiting room of the practice to provide information to patients about what a General Practice Pharmacist can do. They may also be used by other members of the general practice team when referring a patient to the General Practice Pharmacist.
Practice Support Tools to support GP Pharmacists in their role
The Activity checklists can be used by General Practice Pharmacists during their first 3 months of working in a general practice to identify suggested activities they could complete during this period. Assists General Practice Pharmacists to integrate into the practice.
The Waiting room poster can be used to make patients aware that a General Practice Pharmacist is available. Information sheets can be placed in the waiting room to educate patients about the role, and used by other staff in the practice to explain what a General Practice Pharmacist can do.
The General Practice Pharmacist should regularly review with the relevant staff member the needs and priorities of the practice, and how the General Practice Pharmacist can contribute. Reviewing the Needs assessment may inform an updated role description for the General Practice Pharmacist.

The PSA General Practice Pharmacist support tools for consumers have been reviewed by the Consumers Health Forum of Australia (CHF) who believe the tools are relevant and appropriate to support consumers in understanding the role of the General Practice Pharmacist.
