Codeine rescheduling – Managing the transition to Prescription Only codeine

The PSA and the Guild have developed a suite of online modules to assist you and your team to prepare for the rescheduling of combination codeine containing medicines on 1 February 2018. This first module provides you with an overview of the changes to scheduling of combination medicines containing codeine and outlines the impact of these scheduling changes on patients, pharmacists, pharmacy staff and other health professionals.

This activity has been accredited for 0.5 hours of Group 1 CPD (or 0.5 CPD credits) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan, which can be converted to 0.5 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 1 CPD credit) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities.

  • Learning Objectives
    After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:
    • Identify the changes to scheduling of non-prescription codeine containing medicines which come into effect from 1 February 2018
    • Outline the safety concerns identified with codeine containing medicines
    • Identify the impact of these scheduling changes on patients, pharmacists, pharmacy staff and other health professionals
    • Identify the importance of planning a response to minimise the disruption of these changes to scheduling.
