Situations vacant
The Australian Academy of the History of Pharmacy has an urgent need for members to undertake a number of responsible tasks to see the organisation continue to achieve some of its objectives as set out in our mission statement.
Pharmacy History Australia Editor
The number one priority is a small team to take on the editorial task to assemble the tri annual history journal. The typesetting and distribution is all done by the PSA publications department in Canberra.
Secretary / Treasurer
The office of Secretary / Treasurer should be split into two so that the administrative tasks can be the responsibility of the Secretary and the supervision of the fee income and data base management by the Treasurer. Currently subscriptions are collected nationally by PSA.
National Executive Committee
One member in each state should be elected or appointed to the National Executive Committee. This committee acts as an advisory board to the Secretary and the President and ideally should meet at least annually when PAC is meeting. The Academy is not financial enough to arrange national meetings on its own accord.
History in Academia
Liaison with pharmacy schools and national universities to arrange some exposure to students entering the profession to its history is an important role for senior pharmacists. This is an interesting task but too few have been willing to give their time so that a short curriculum can be developed as a guide to the volunteers.
International Delegate
Many pharmacists enjoy international travel and we have an International Society which is Eurocentric, but a very well organised body. Biennial annual conferences are held in one of the world’s beautiful cities. Because of our membership numbers Australia has a seat on the International Society Executive Committee and it would be very disappointing to lose this link. An international delegate who enjoys travel and sharing pharmacy experiences would love this position.
Australian and New Zealand Society of the History of Medicine
Amalgamation with this body maybe the way of the future and it is important that pharmacy is represented on the Society Council and participates in their biennial conferences.
Historical Network
We also have network of experienced historian pharmacists to draw on for information sort by members of non members and which will not be affected by the changes outlined above.
