Conclusion
The following were the last words from an article printed in the Pharmaceutical Journal of 1924 entitled The Romance of the Trade Mark ‘Vaseline’.17
‘The thing that makes the story of Vaseline jelly advertising so unique is what that advertising has really accomplished. It has put a new word in the language. The trade mark word Vaseline is not a noun and should appear in the dictionary only as a private trade-marked word – with the permission of its owners. Really it is a brand in the legal sense of the word.’
The Little Oxford Dictionary defines Vaseline as:
Vaseline /væsil:in/ noun proprietary term type of petroleum jelly used as ointment, etc.

Queensland archival project
PSA Queensland Branch has undertaken a project to digitise its collection of the Australian Journal of Pharmacy, affectionately known as the AJP.
The project is sponsored by PDL and when completed, each PSA branch, pharmacy schools and other institutions as well as scholars and researchers will be able to access the history of Australian pharmacy without further damaging the original publications.
Further negotiations with PDL are seeking to include in the digitisation program, the Chemist and Druggist of Australia from 1887 to 1919.
This is a splendid initiative by Queensland which will be part of the celebrations for the opening of their new Pharmacy Australia Centre of Excellence ( PACE ) building in January 2010.

The Australasian Journal of Pharmacy as it was first known, is one of the inspired products of the era over a century ago often referred to that of ‘marvellous Melbourne’.
While periods of depression followed that time of dynamic creative activity, The AJP survived to become Australia’s first first national pharmacy institution, and ultimately what is believed to be Australia’s second oldest continuously published magazine (after the Bulletin).
Now that is something worth preserving!
