O’Brien’s Pharmacy, eagLEHAWK, victoria
O’Brien’s Pharmacy, located in the High Street of Eaglehawk, which is part of the City of Greater Bendigo in Victoria, was opened in circa 1886 by a John Layson. It still has the original shopfront, although the local Council removed the verandah some years ago.
The upper floor was originally a photographic studio and light was provided by one glass in one wall and the roof.
With the space available upstairs most of the old equipment, bottles, prescription books and display cases has been preserved as a museum, which reflects the actual life of the pharmacy.
To view the museum it is necessary to make an appointment for security reasons, but those that have viewed the display are delighted that so much history has been preserved.
