PSA Intern Training Program

On successful completion of your training, you will receive a certificate of completion and the 11255NAT Graduate Certificate in Applied Pharmacy Practice.

 

Fees

$2,295 (including GST).

Flexible payment option:

6 monthly installments of $382.50

College Intern Training Program

On successful completion of your training, you will receive a certificate of completion. 

 

Fees

$1,950 (including GST).

Flexible payment option:
6 monthly installments of $325.00
 

Duration: Up to 24 months
Delivery mode: Blended delivery combining face-to-face workshops, online workshops, online assessments and workplace-based training.

Who are the Intern Training Programs for?

The PSA Intern Training Programs are for pharmacy graduates who want to become registered pharmacists. This includes:

  • Australian pharmacy graduates from Board approved programs
  • Overseas qualified pharmacists who have passed KAPS or OPRA examinations

 

Which program do I choose?

PSA offers two intern training pathways, allowing you to choose the option that best aligns with your career goals.

 

PSA Intern Training Program (PSA ITP)

This program is accredited by the Australian Pharmacy Council.

 

Nationally Recognised Training logoOn successful completion of the PSA Intern Training Program, you will receive:

  • A Certificate of Completion, and
  • 11255NAT Graduate Certificate in Applied Pharmacy Practice

 

The PSA ITP is designed to support interns who are seeking a nationally recognised qualification alongside their internship and opens pathways to further study.

 

Vocational outcomes include the ability to:

  • Lead their own professional development
  • Apply advanced consultation skills to support collaborative decision‑making
  • Manage the quality use of medicines
  • Design and implement a public health initiative
  • Manage and resolve complex and sensitive practice‑based problems

College Intern Training Program (College ITP)

This program is accredited by the Australian Pharmacy Council.

 

Students who successfully complete the College Intern Training Program will receive a Certificate of Completion.

 

The College Intern Training Program is designed for today’s dynamic pharmacy workplace. Interns complete a range of learning and assessment activities throughout the year that consolidate and build on knowledge gained during undergraduate study. These activities are integrated with on‑the‑job experience, supporting interns to develop their skills, confidence and professional judgement as healthcare practitioners.

How the Intern Training Programs work

PSA’s Intern Training Programs are structured to support you in meeting Pharmacy Board of Australia registration requirements through:

  • Structured training workshops (face‑to‑face and online)
  • Interactive online modules and quizzes
  • Workplace‑based assessments
  • Comprehensive examination preparation

FAQs

Students can enrol at any time of the year and are separated into two intakes depending on their enrolment date: 

  • First intake: 1 October – 31 March 
  • Second intake: 1 April – 30 September 

You will receive an email when your enrolment has been confirmed. You can then access your course via the following steps:  

  1. Login in at my.psa.org.au 
  2. Click on My Courses & Training and select intern program under Not Started or In Progress. 
  3. This will open another page, scroll down and press the launch button to access your course. 

Training is delivered via mixed delivery. Interns will complete face-to-face and online workshops in their registered state, as well as online assessments and learning. This is also complemented with workplace-based assessments completed at your Approved Supervised Practice site. 

Potential interns must supply evidence confirming they: 

  • hold provisional registration, and 
  • have an AHPRA approved preceptor, and 
  • Have an AHPRA approved supervised practice location 
PSA ITP

The course can be completed in a minimum period of 9 months up to a maximum period of 24 months. Our trainers and assessors can work with you to accommodate submission dates if required. Extensions beyond two years are considered on a case-by-case basis.

 

College ITP

Successful enrolment in the College Intern Training Program provides access to the Program for 24 months from the course commencement date. Time required to complete the program beyond this is available via an extension with associated fee.

 

 

PSA ITP

We offer training sessions as part of the training workshops including one session on the written exam and multiple sessions on the oral exam. The PSA ITP provides the following in exam preparation support:

  • Exclusive PSA intern only workshop with a timed MCQ mock exam to help you prepare for the APC written exam giving you all the necessary hints, tips and strategies for success!
  • TWO mock timed written exams with worked answers
  • Dedicated exam preparation workshop day – fully interactive with case scenarios and discussions on the key areas of the oral exams
  • SIX full mock exams to be held with your preceptor
  • Support and friendly advice from our highly experienced PSA Trainer Assessors.

 

 

College ITP

The College ITP provides interns with a number of opportunities to prepare for both the written and oral examination. The College ITP provides the following in exam preparation support:

  • Exclusive College intern only MCQ practice exam modules to help you prepare for the APC written exam.
  • ‘Mock written examination’ exercises in workshops, to provide you with the necessary hints, tips and strategies for success!
  • Dedicated exam preparation workshop day– fully interactive with case scenarios and discussions on the key areas of the oral and written exams.
  • Written assignments as part of the College ITP provide targeted written and oral exam preparation.
  • Support and friendly advice from our highly accessible College clinical tutors.

A preceptor is a pharmacist with General Registration who is responsible for the overall supervision and development of the intern. 

Interns must attend all required workshops (face-to-face and online).
