Codeine rescheduling: A patient focused clinical overview of pain

The PSA and the Guild have developed a suite of online modules to assist you and your team to prepare for the rescheduling of combination codeine containing medicines on 1 February 2018. This module assists you with identifying the features of acute versus chronic pain, and outlines the important role of the pharmacist in managing acute pain.
CPD credits

Accreditation number: CONL1723

This activity has been accredited for 1.5 hours of Group 1 CPD (or 1.5 CPD credits) suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD plan, which can be converted to 1.5 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 3 CPD credits) upon successful completion of relevant assessment activities.

  • Learning Objectives
    After completing this activity, pharmacists should be able to:
    • Discuss the incidence and impact of pain in Australia
    • Identify the clinical features of acute and chronic pain
    • Describe the medicines used for managing pain, their role, advantages and disadvantages
    • Describe the pharmacist’s role in acute pain management.
