RMIT student crowned PSA Viatris Pharmacy Student of the Year
31 July 2026
The Pharmaceutical Society of Australia (PSA) is pleased to announce Alexandra Ravenhall from RMIT University as the winner of the 2026 PSA Viatris Pharmacy Student of the Year (PSOTY) competition.
Presented annually, the PSA Viatris PSOTY competition recognises and celebrates outstanding pharmacy students from across Australia, challenging finalists to demonstrate their clinical knowledge, communication, and patient counselling skills in a rigorous national competition.
Alexandra was selected as the winner by an esteemed judging panel comprising of PSA Board Director, Dr Amanda Cross FPS, respected rural and early career pharmacist, Shaylee Mills MPS, and Ian Currie MPS, Product Manager at Viatris.
Sophia Watson from Curtin University, a fourth-year pharmacy student, was awarded the People’s Choice Award, voted for by delegates attending PSA26.
The finalists were assessed on their ability to engage with patients, build rapport, gather relevant clinical information, identify appropriate referral points, and provide safe, patient-centred advice.
Dr Amanda Cross FPS congratulated Alexandra on being named the PSA Viatris PSOTY and applauded all finalists for making it an exceptional competition.
“The finalists demonstrated the critical skills we expect to see from modern pharmacists, from communicating effectively, to building trust with patients, demonstrating their clinical reasoning, and supporting the quality use of medicines,” Dr Cross said.
“These students represent a bright future for the profession, and they should all be proud of their achievements. Congratulations to Alexandra for her highly competitive performance and all the finalists for participating.”
As the national winner, Alexandra joins an impressive cohort of emerging pharmacy leaders who have excelled through the PSOTY program and gone on to make significant contributions to the profession.
PSA congratulates Alexandra, Sophia, and all finalists for their outstanding performances and thanks Viatris for its ongoing support of the competition and commitment to fostering the next generation of pharmacists.
